Since 2002, Ralph has been a practicing clinician in Critical Care Medicine at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital, a large teaching hospital in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. In 2009 he was also appointed as medical chief quality officer. Beyond his clinical work, Ralph is actively involved in clinical research, with a focus on rapid response systems. Other topics of interest are hospital readmissions, team resource management and value-based healthcare. 
Ralph is a member of the National Committee on Early recognition and treatment of the deteriorating patient on the general wards. 
In 2017, Ralph began studying on the Master of Health Care Delivery Science programme (MHCDS Class 2019) at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, USA.
