, , Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust , Consultant Nurse Critical Care & Outreach

Liz is Nurse Consultant for Critical Care Outreach at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust.  Prior to this had worked in Critical Care roles for over 15 years, specialising in Critical Care Outreach for the last 7.  She has a passion for improving recognition and response to acute deterioration and has presented both nationally and internationally, focussing on factors affecting nurse decision making when escalating deteriorating patients.  As a co-opted member of the Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Committee of the Intensive Care Society, Liz is currently actively engaged in the redesign of the ICS strategy.  Liz has also worked with the North-West London Critical Care Network, initially developing a network wide strategy to introduce NEWS, and more recently in designing a critical care transfer app (STrAPP) and an award-winning transfer bag.

Between September 2015 and July 2017 Liz took time away from the clinical area to become a founding fellow in the Quality Improvement (QI) team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust where she had the privilege of being able to develop and shape the fellowship over her time in the role.  Liz supported key strategic priority work around deteriorating patients, safety culture and patient and public involvement.  With her specialist clinical background, she became involved in improving patient flow through critical care and in redesigning pathways for patients with airway stenosis.  She was also involved in a major project to improve care and management of Non-Invasive Ventilation which has been recognised by NICE.
