Abi is currently PhD student at AMC University of Amsterdam and is affiliated to Mahidol Oxford Tropical Research Unit. Currently based in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, her research focuses on improving access to and delivery of critical care, combining medical anthropology with clinical medicine. 

She is coordinator and a founding trustee of Network for Improving Critical Care Systems and Training (NICST), a UK charity that focuses on building global health and critical care capacity in Lower-Middle Income Countries. Her clinical background is as an advanced nurse practitioner in critical care outreach and clinical lecturer.
